Centenarian…

Katharine Hepburn would have been 100 today. I hadn’t really registered that her birthday was May 12 – or at least it wasn’t on the top of my mental notes for today. But when I looked at the Film Center schedule to check on tonight’s movie, I found that they were showing “Summertime.” Not the best of her films but it fit with the series of Janus films they’ve been shoing and they had a beautiful print. It was fun and the audience had a good time. Karen Karbo, author of a new book called “How to Hepburn” gave a short introduction. Karen once worked at the Film Center so it was her idea to show a Hepburn film on the occasion of her hundredth birthday.
Kate Hepburn died 4 years ago, but one can easily imagine her as a bossy centenarian, taking no guff from anybody. The New York Times had an op-ed piece today and other news media mentioned her.
