Khaki Kilts?

Went to the North American Organic Brewers Festival yesterday – here in Portland on a bright sunny Friday afternoon. They moved it to an outdoor site this year – and everybody I ran into said how much nicer it was than being cooped up in a building. Of course, they may have changed their minds today – I’m looking out at the showers and congratulating myself on going yesterday.
The beers were interesting – some flavors just don’t appeal to me in beer. Gingerbread I love in a latte, but it doesn’t do much for other beverages. Still, it was good to try new things. And the habanera peppers in the stout were quite good.
After beer sampling, my next favorite activity is people watching. I haven’t really been to the organic beer fest before so don’t know how this crowd compared to previous years. The most unusual costume I saw was the guy dressed in what I first thought were khaki shorts – right color and length – but that turned out to be a kilt. Complete with cargo pockets. I don’t believe traditional kilts come with pockets – and if they do, they’re hidden in the plaid. These pockets were the standard ones you see on jeans – and quite large. Very useful I’m sure but not what I was expecting. He was wearing black socks and some kind of walking shoes – not sandals or flipflops which were more the order of the day. If he’d been closer (I was observing from across the park) or if I’d had more to drink, I’d have started a conversation. As it was, I just observed the passing crowd and got tokens for more beer.
My desk was behind this column.
